About the tutor
Hi there! I love English - I've been teaching English (ESL) for 15+ years and have current ESL teaching qualifications from Canada, the US and the UK.
I often teach conversation, workplace/business English, IELTS prep, TOEFL prep, academic English and pronunciation/clear speaking. I also teach middle school English (grades 5-8).
I work hard to build my students' confidence, fluency and language skills. I am happy to create classes to meet my students needs.
I've been teaching English (ESL) for 15+ years and have current ESL teaching qualifications from Canada, the US and the UK (MA TESOL, MSc. Education, BA Linguistics, DELTA, OCELT). I have completed my ELA license qualifications for middle school (grades 4-8).
I have taught in public and private schools (grades 5-8), universities, companies and at the British Council. I have taught in Canada, the US, South Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia.
I currently teach at a university (adults, ESL) and private school (grades 5-8, English writing) - but these days, I'm mostly an educational consultant (curriculum and management).
During my trial lessons, I work with my students to understand their goals and evaluate their skills. I generally try to put together a work plan with my students at this point. I'm always happy to answer questions and the trial lesson is a great chance for us to meet and see how we can work together!

- Conversational English
- Over 15 years of teaching conversational English classes, from beginners to advanced learners. I focus on my students' needs and we work on clear speaking, fluency, vocabulary and sometimes grammar.
- Business English
- I have designed and delivered company classes and individual training in Business English since 2007. My classes are designed specifically for the needs of my students and often focus on business writing (emails/reports), speaking in meetings (and on the phone) and giving presentations. Vocabulary is also an important part of Business English.
- IELTS
- I have designed and taught IELTS classes for over 7 years. I have also been an examiner (speaking and writing). I know what examiners look for, so I can help my students to maximize their scores (for their language level).
- TOEFL
- I have been teaching TOEFL for so long that I still remember the paper-based test! I understand the scoring rubrics and the test well and work with my students to help them maximize their scores (for their language level). We'll often focus on developing note-taking and paraphrasing skills in addition to the standard test prep, as these skills make a big difference in test-takers' scores in the integrated speaking and writing sections.
- SAT Writing
- I have a couple of years of experience working with ESL students on improving their SAT writing. I have also worked with ESL students on the reading skills required for the SAT exam.
- Canadian English
- I'm Canadian born-and-raised and hold the highest ESL teaching credential in Canada, OCELT.
- TEFL
- I trained teachers in TESOL for many years, as an instructional coordinator at a university. My experience also includes delivering training workshops in the Middle East, the US, Canada and Mongolia. I have also helped teachers prepare for DELTA Module 1 and 3 (I have both, with merit). For US-based teachers, I am able to help teachers prepare for the ESL Praxis exam.
